Restrictions & Registration

This copy of SurfBoard is primarily intended for purposes of evaluation and suitability testing. However, it may be freely included on any non-commercial World Wide Web site subject to the terms and conditions given below and in the formal license.

Commercial designers may use this evaluation copy during authoring and prototyping stages and for presentation to clients, but may not publish this copy on any intranet or commercial Web site.

Like most evaluation versions of CodeBase applets, this has been nobbled in an undisguised attempt to get our hands on your money.  Why?  Quite simply, we'd like to go on producing quality software for some time to come, but once in a while we have to buy food to keep our strength up...

  • Our copyright message will be displayed in the browser statusbar whenever the mouse enters the applet.

  • The 'Testmode' feature is disabled.

  • During initialization, our copyright message will appear in the center of the applet for three seconds.

  • No support is provided for unregistered applets - you're on your own. We'll be pleased to answer questions from prospective purchasers about the functionality of registered versions, and we're always happy to hear your comments and suggestions.

  • Why Should I Register?
Apart from that happy warm feeling you get from lightening your wallet a little, the restrictions mentioned above will be removed:

  • The 'Testmode' and statusbar-related parameters become active. Our copyright message is instead relegated to a single Copyright parameter included within your <APPLET> tag, and is never displayed within the browser itself.

  • No copyright message is shown during initialization, meaning that the applet starts far more quickly and cleanly.

  • You'll be entitled to free email support for as long as you use the applet. As well as dealing with any problems relating to CodeBase applets, we'll also try to help with other Java/HTML/scripting problems that may be bugging you.

  • You'll be entitled to free automatic upgrades of registered applets if and when they become available. (Yes we like to eat, but we have small appetites!)

  • How Do I Register?
There are several payment/registration options, each of which is briefly outlined below. For full details, go to www.codebase.co.uk/register.

  • Online Registration using our secure payment facilities. Most popular credit cards are accepted and payment is usually cleared within just a few seconds.

  • Direct Wire Transfer from your bank account to ours. Note that your bank may charge you an exhorbitant rate for doing this simple job. Remember that payment must be in US dollars.

  • Cash by post. This is not an advisable method to use and you should note that you accept the entire risk of doing so. Payment will be accepted in US dollars or the UK sterling equivalent.

  • When registering, there are two vital pieces of information we'll need from you:

    1. Your email address so that we can send you the registered version(s) of the product(s)

    2. The URL that opens the default page of your site. All registered applets are encoded with this information so that they cannot be accessed from pages on a different server. If you have your own domain, this would be something like www.mycompany.com/. If you're with an ISP, it might be www.myISP.com/~myname/. If you're with GeoCities (or AOL, CompuServe...) it could be something like www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/1028/.
